Colts open Coast North series with 13-10 win at Skyline

SAN BRUNO — Cañada College held on for a 13-10 win at Skyline College on Tuesday afternoon to open a three-game Coast Conference North Division series. With the win, the Colts moved to 10-13 overall and 2-2 in Coast Conference play.
The Colts scored in six of nine innings, plating four runs in the second on a two-run double by Junior Malan that chased Skyline starter Declan Mendel after 1 1/3 innings. Cañada led 11-6 heading into the eighth before Skyline's Trey Johnson hit a grand slam to make it 13-10. Cole Leschak picked up the save after he retired the side in order in the ninth to close it out.
Noah Garcia went 3-for-5 with four runs scored to lead the Colts offensively. Tim Selway added two hits and three runs, while Malan and Patrick Sanchez each drove in three. Stone Daniel-Savage went 2-for-6 with two RBI.
Gabriel Levine earned the win with 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Adam Bailey, who allowed six runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Cañada collected 14 hits and drew 10 walks.
The squads return to action on Thursday with Game 2 in Redwood City.
