REDWOOD CITY – The 2026 Cañada College baseball season got off to a solid start over the weekend.
The Colts offense exploded for a combined 31 runs over the two games, earning a 21-11 win against the Panthers in Saturday's series finale while dropping Friday's opening-day contest by a final score of 13-10.
Game 1: Sacramento City 13, Cañada 10
The Colts erased an early three-run deficit and took the lead in the third inning on a two-run single by Tim Selway, going ahead 5-4. Cañada extended the margin to 8-5 in the fourth with run-scoring hits from Patrick Sanchez (single), Ryan DeMartino (triple), and Selway (single).
Sacramento City responded with a decisive five-run, seventh inning to regain the lead, then added three more runs in the eighth to extend the advantage to 13-8.
Cañada closed the gap in the bottom of the eighth when Logan Faildo smashed a two-run home run, but the Colts were unable to complete the comeback in the ninth.
Cañada finished with 15 hits, led by Sanchez (3-for-5, 1 RBI) and Tim Selway (3-for-4, 3 RBI). Matthew Lofberg, Jimmy Flynn, and Nathynn Alvaro all drove in runs, recording RBIs.
Game 2: Cañada 21, Sacramento City 11
The Colts racked up 15 more hits and exploded for 21 runs in Saturday's series finale to salvage a spit against the Panthers.
Cañada jumped out in front 9-1 after a huge eight-run, second-inning rally. The Colts also erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Stone Daniel-Savage led the Colts, going 3-for-6 with a home run and 4 RBI. Matthew Lofberg (2-for-4) also drove in 4 runs, Patrick Sanchez smashed a home run, and Jimmy Flynn laced a pair of doubles and had 2 RBI.
Cañada, now 1-1 overall, is back in action on Friday (Jan. 30) when the Colts host Lassen College in a two-game non-conference series. Game 1 is set for 1 p.m. on Friday with Game 2 on Saturday at noon.
