No. 5 Colts a win from return trip to State Championships, host No. 9 Fresno
REDWOOD CITY – The Cañada College men's soccer team is just one win away from qualifying for the state championships for the second straight season. On Tuesday, the Colts cruised to a 3-0, third-round victory over No. 13 Skyline College to earn their spot in a regional final of the Northern California playoffs.
Cañada is set to host No. 9-seeded Fresno City College on Saturday (Nov. 29) at 2 p.m. with the winner moving on to the 3C2A State Championships on Dec. 5 & 7 at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.

On Tuesday, the Colts got first-half goals from Chris Lopez (25th minute) and Josh Ramos (28th) to give Cañada a commanding 2-0 lead at the break. Dylan Antunovich closed out the scoring and sealed the victory with a goal in the 59th minute.
Luis Evangelista totaled 6 saves in goal for the Colts to post their second straight shutout and ninth of the season. Cañada improved to 12-2-7 overall with Tuesday's win and after advancing over No. 12 Feather River College (0-0, 4-3 PKs) in its playoff opener last Saturday.
No. 9 Fresno City battled No. 1-seeded Santa Rosa Junior College to a scoreless draw but won a 5-4, penalty-kick shootout to upset the region's top team and advance to Saturday's regional final.
The Rams have also won playoff games over No. 24 Contra Costa (5-0) and No. 8 Merced (1-1, 9-8 PKs) to improve to 11-3-10 overall.
Cañada and Fresno City will be meeting for the second time this season. The Colts will look for revenge after falling to the Rams 1-0 in Fresno back on Sep. 12.
