Big first half leads Colts to rout at home over Gavilan
REDWOOD CITY – Mateo Jackson scored a season-high 23 points while Jake Skaggs posted a huge double-double with 12 points and 21 rebounds to help lead Cañada College to an 86-49 rout of visiting Gavilan College on Saturday night.
Cañada seized control early, erupting for 47 first-half points while holding Gavilan to just 19. The Colts' defensive pressure and dominance on the glass fueled the fast start, allowing them to dictate the pace from the opening tip.
Jackson's 23 points came on an efficient 10-of-17 shooting night, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc and adding six assists. In addition to his double-double, Skaggs also filled up the stat sheet with seven assists, two steals, and a block.
Jerwayne Williams Jr. provided a big spark off the bench, pouring in 18 points on 9-of-12 shooting to help keep the momentum firmly on Cañada's side. Joshua Davis contributed eight points, six assists, and three steals while Shawn Acosta added eight points and seven rebounds. Darius Jackson chipped in 10 points off the bench, hitting a pair of three-pointers.
With the win, Cañada improved to 3-5 overall this season. The Colts are back in action on Dec. 11 when they travel to Solano College for a non-conference game.
