Skaggs posts double-double in Colts’ season-opener
REDWOOD CITY – Sophomore Jake Skaggs poured in a game-high 28 points for Cañada College but it wasn't enough as the Colts dropped their season opener 85-78 to visiting Diablo Valley College on Thursday.
Skaggs, a returning All-Coast Conference first-team selection last season, compiled a double-double in his season debut, hauling in 15 rebounds while dishing out 4 assists to go with his Cañada career-high 28 points. He shot 9 for 14 with a three-pointer from the field and was 9 of 10 from the free throw line.
Diablo Valley and Cañada were tied up at 35-35 after the first half before the Vikings outscored the Colts 50-43 in a close final 20 minutes of play.
Sophomore Darius Jackson had a solid game with 13 points, 6 boards, and 5 assists while freshman Kevin Perez chipped in with 11 points and 4 rebounds off the bench.
Cañada is back in action on Wednesday (Nov. 5) when the Colts travel to Merritt College in Oakland for a 7 p.m. non-conference game.
