2018 Cañada Student Athlete of the Year Award Winners

Giovanny Gomes, Men's Soccer 2018

Giovanny Gomes has excelled in both academics and athletics during his two years at Cañada. Giovanny has been the captain in both seasons in which he has competed, while also completing his Associate of Arts Degree in Communications this spring 2018. Giovanny has led by example throughout his time at Cañada both in the classroom and on the field. The coaches in the Coast-South Conference have noticed, giving him 1st Team All-Coast Conference honors both as a freshman and sophomore. In his second year, Giovanny also earned 2nd Team United Soccer Coaches Junior College Men’s Division III AllAmerican and 2nd Team United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division III Men’s All-West Region Teams. Most significantly, Giovanny was named the Most Valuable Player for the Men’s Soccer Team. Giovanny has accepted a scholarship to Menlo College.

Aman Sangha, Women's Golf 2018

The Cañada Women’s Golf Program two-year Captain and Most Valuable Player in the Central Valley Conference averaged an even par 72. Aman also earned Most Valuable Player accolades in the Big 8 Conference her sophomore year, averaging one under par 71. Aman has excelled in leadership qualities as team captain and was recognized as a wonderful teammate by her follow student athletes and all opposing players and coaches. Aman worked as hard as anyone Former Coach Rick Velasquez has ever seen throughout his career, as she truly has a love for the game of golf. Aman has accepted a full-athletic golf scholarship to Portland State University due to her success at Cañada College.
